The musical group of Giani Ralla Singh Safri was very popular in the state of Punjab even before 1970. He was known to have such a sharp intellect that he assimilated the complete proceedings of the congregation being held in a poem that he prepared sitting there on the stage.
Once during the anniversary celebrations (Most probably on 6th POH 1960) of Sant Baba Harnam Singh ji Maharaj at Nirmal Kutiya Johalan, the group of Giani Ralla Singh also came to attend. Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj was present in the congregation. The sangat was enjoying the melodious and pleasant sounds of Kirtan. The noble deeds 301 of Sant Baba Harnam Singh ji Maharaj were also narrated. Sant Baba ji instructed the stage secretary to give time to the group of Giani Ralla Singh for performing the Kirtan.
Giani Ralla Singh expressed his love and respect for both Sant Baba Harnam Singh ji Maharaj of Jiyan and Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj through a poem. During his recitation of the following poem, he pointed again and again at Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj (who was in deep meditation):
Today the Ganges of the Name of the Lord is flowing at Johal;
There before us sits the same light that once sparkled in Jiyan.Baba Harnam Singh has gone to the City of the Gurus;
In his place he sowed a plant full of the Lord’s Name.
The world glowed as from the light of the sun;
There before us sits the same light that once sparkled in Jiyan.
Whoever had DARSHAN of Sant Baba Harnam Singh ji?
His boat of life traversed the distance from one shore to the other.
Baba Harnam Singh was an idol of the Lord;
There before us sits the same light that once sparkled in Jiyan.
He had gone for the struggle of Jaiton;
Where he became the center of attraction amidst the struggle.
This deeply troubled the English Government;
There before us sits the same light that once sparkled in Jiyan.
Today we all have gathered to remember him;
How can a small person like ‘SAFRI’ appreciate his deeds;
The Name of the saint is being appreciated by the world;
