Wherever my True Guru goes and sits, that place is beautiful, O Lord King.
The Guru’s Sikhs seek out that place; they take the dust and apply it to their faces.(Page 450)

History

The Holy feet of the Sixth Guru Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib graced the village of Ramsar. After winning four battles in the areas of Malwa and Doaba and defeating the army of King Shah Jehan, Guru Sahib while returning to Sri Kiratpur Sahib, rested for a while with his forces at Ramsar.

Revelation of the place and prediction

This historic place was revealed to the public by Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj in the year 1922. The background of the revelation is given below:

One day Sardar Naranjan Singh of village Kukar Pind was collecting melons in his field. His father happened to be there who asked him, “Why are you collecting these melons?”

Sardar Naranjan Singh, a devotee of Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj replied, “I will carry these melons and offer them to Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj at Johalan.”

The father said, “I have heard a lot about this Holy saint. He is said to be a great saint. Why doesn’t he come to the farm for eating the melons?”

Sardar Naranjan Singh replied, “The Holy saints are unpredictable. One doesn’t know how they will behave? We should not doubt them and instead have full faith in them.”

Sardar Naranjan Singh then prayed in his mind, “It will really be gratifying if Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj comes to the farm and blesses all of us with his presence.”

The all-knowing Sant Baba ji received the message. He along with his two followers reached the place after a short time. Sant Baba ji was on horseback.

The doubts in the mind of the father of Naranjan Singh about the Holiness of Sant Baba ji were cleared within no time. He welcomed Sant Baba ji and said, “This is your farm Maharaj ji.”

The old man felt that he should not have spoken the harsh words doubting Sant Baba ji’s spiritual level. He felt small in front of his devoted son. He fell on the feet of Sant Baba ji and beseeched forgiveness.

Sant Baba ji smilingly asked Giani Didar Singh, Nambardar who had accompanied him, to pick some melons from the farm.

Sant Baba ji then came to the place, where the present Gurdwara Ramsar exists. He alighted from the horse and genuflected on the ground. He then sat there on the ground. The villagers of Kukar Pind and Kot, on receiving the news of the coming of Sant Baba ji started reaching the place where Sant Baba ji was sitting. They paid their homage to the great saint who had blessed the land of their village. Everyone was served with melons. Sant Baba ji also ate a portion of the melon.

On enquiry from the villagers about his genuflection at the place, Sant Baba ji replied, “This is a sacred place. It was sanctified with the Holy feet of the Sixth Master Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib.”

There was a small pond near the site. Sant Baba ji came to this puddle and informed the eager followers, “Guru Sahib drank water from this pond and became refreshed. He then left his horse and the horses of his men to drink water from the pond.”

The villagers present there could not stop themselves from bowing their heads in respect. Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj then gave his prediction, “This sacred place will become very popular one day. It will attract many people towards it.”

The first AKHAND PATH (uninterrupted recitation of the entire Sri Guru Granth Sahib) was undertaken in the year 1966. It was performed inside a special tent that had been erected for the purpose

The invaluable words of Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj affected the minds of many. Sardar Chanan Singh (Father of Jathedar Balbir Singh) of Kukar Pind was one of those who had been really impressed by the revelation of Sant Baba ji. He was a devotee of Sant Baba ji. Everyday he dismantled five bricks from his own courtyard, placed them on his 101 head and took them to the site of the present Gurdwara. The villagers used to mock him and said, “Chanan Singh! A Gurdwara cannot be constructed with the supply of your five bricks.”

The villagers could not understand the wondrous state of S. Chanan Singh. S. Chanan Singh replied, “I have taken this responsibility and I am performing it as best as possible. Others also should perform their responsibility. If every one joins, there is no doubt a Gurdwara will get constructed soon.”

Construction of a Gurdwara

The villagers constructed a small room at the site and a Gurdwara established. The Sikh Flag, the NISHAN SAHIB was erected on a raised dune nearby. On 20.04.1989 Sant Baba Gian Singh ji Maharaj, the beloved disciple of Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj, laid the foundation stone of a new Gurdwara building. Under his instructions and supervision the devotees of the nearby villages joined together and the present beautiful building of the Gurdwara was constructed.

Importance of the place

The Holy feet of the Sixth Master sanctified this place. With the instructions of the Almighty Satguru, Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj revealed the sacred place and encouraged the villagers for the construction of a Gurdwara. The present building was then erected on the instructions of Sant Baba Gian Singh ji. The site would impress any person visiting the place. The devotees converted the place that had been rendered pious by the Holy feet of the Sixth Master into a religious place.

Construction of a water tank

There is a deep relation between the recitation of Gurbani and water. On the instructions of Sant Baba ji the small pond, which existed nearby was converted into a Sarovar. People consider this water tank to be Holy. They take a dip in the water of the Holy tank to get rid of their sins.

The villagers were brought closer to the Almighty with the efforts of Sant Baba ji. Wishes of the people visiting the place were fulfilled. The sangat was happy, as they were able to palliate their troubles. The devotion increased with the passage of time and at present the Gurdwara has become a place where the devotees arrange regular AKHAND PATHS.

Every MASYA (Dark moon day) is celebrated with fervor and devotees collect here for offering prayers. A Bhog of Sri AKHAND PATH is performed on this day and thereafter a congregation held. People from far and near consider this to be a Holy day and reach the place in large numbers. This has been carrying on since 1966.
