Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj left village Marula and came to village Haveli/Hallowal. Once in this village, he selected the site near the well of Sardar Kartar Singh. This place was three kilometers away from the town of Mahilpur.
During the daytime, he would remain hidden in the nearby jungle and at night he chose to sit for meditation in the stack of wheat chaff. For many days and nights he remained away for his TAP. He would have an early morning bath from the water of the well and would leave immediately for the jungle. No one could trace him in the jungle. In the jungle he recited the Name of the Immortal being.
Sardar Kartar Singh visited the fields and also checked the heap of chaff. He observed that there was some alteration of the chaff from the way he had last seen it. He felt that there was some thief meddling with the chaff at night. He decided to keep a night vigil and stayed there after dark. When Baba ji came near the stack, Sardar ji shouted in an angry voice, “Who is there?”
Sardar ji could not see the person due to darkness but could make out the movement of some individual.
Sant Baba ji kept quiet.
Sardar Kartar Singh came a little closer and said, “So you are the one who has been meddling with my chaff.”
Sant Baba ji spoke, “You can call me a thief of your chaff.”
Sardar Kartar Singh recognized the voice of Sant Baba ji immediately. He said, “Baba ji! I did not know that it was you. I thought that there is some thief.”
Sant Baba ji said, “Instead, I keep a watch of your chaff at night.”
Sardar ji felt embarrassed and said, “I am sorry. I did not know it was you who was responsible for the movement noticed by me in the chaff. Please excuse me for my ignorance. This stack is yours. The well is yours. The fields are yours and you may live here the way you want.”

Sardar ji in order to be pardoned for his mistake constructed a small hut and requested Sant Baba ji, “Please excuse me for my ignorance. This small hut may please be used as your dwelling. Please bless us by accepting to live in this hut.”
Sant Baba ji moved into the hut. For three months this hut was used as his abode. He went to the village Hallowal to collect his one-time meals by begging for it.
Village Hallowal is a blessed village. Almost all the villagers of this village are baptized Sikhs. They are devotees of Nirmal Kutiya Johal, and often come to the Kutiya to pay their homage. The village is full of enterprising people who are living a very satisfied and happy life.
