Nirmal Kutiya Johalan

THE KUTIYA IS OUR TEMPLE

Guru Sahib had given the invaluable gift to his Sikhs for them to enjoy SEWA and SIMRAN. The body gets purified through SEWA and the mind gets peace from SIMRAN. People were shown the path that led to Service for the Humanity and also the spiritual path of SIMRAN, by Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj.

The devotees of Sant Baba ji came to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan from places far and wide. Whenever some kind of SEWA was carrying on in the Kutiya, the sangat joined in carry ing out the work. Small kids to old men equally participated in the SEWA. There was no difference between a rich man and a poor one when silently everyone performed the work assigned to him. Attending to the SEWA brought about additional blessings from the Holy saint.

During the leveling of the approach road, an elderly lady and her husband came to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan. They belonged to the Brahamin caste and had come from village Boparai. The lady was suffering from a skin disease on her hands. She had not been cured inspite of different medicines and treatment of doctors. Both came to the Kutiya to pay homage to Sant Baba ji.

Sant Baba ji was kind enough to ask them, “From where have you come?”

The husband replied, “Maharaj! We have come from village Boparai.”

He was eager to discuss with Sant Baba ji about the sickness of his wife. A devotee of Sant Baba ji who had guided them to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan had however, advised to speak less but obey all the instructions of Sant Baba ji. The devotee had full faith in Sant Baba ji and assured them that Sant Baba ji would be instrumental in removing their agony.

Sant Baba ji said to him, “You have done the right thing. The construction of the road is going on. You also join the others and share the SEWA.”

The husband on receiving the instructions of Sant Baba ji replied, “Satya Vachan Maharaj!”

“Take your wife along. Let her also do SEWA with her hands,” advised Sant Baba ji.

Both husband and wife reached the spot where the work was carrying on. They picked up baskets of mud filled by the sewadars and spread the mud on the uneven road in order to level it. There were many people performing this task. All of them were working sincerely and with full love. The couple observed that the sewadars at the time of filling, picking and placing the buckets, were reciting the Name of the Lord. Both of them took the cue and started chanting – ‘Waheguru! Waheguru!’

After some time a bell rang at the Kutiya, the sound of which was heard by those involved in the SEWA. The bell had announced the serving of the langar (The Holy Food).

All the sewadars stopped their work and started moving towards the Kutiya. The couple did not understand the sudden stoppage of work and proceeding towards the Kutiya. They joined the others and on enquiry were informed about the serving of the Holy Food.

When the sangat reached the Kutiya, Sant Baba ji advised them, “All of you wash your hands and feet properly before you sit in the row for partaking the Holy Food.”

All of them said, “Satya Vachan!” They went to wash their hands and legs from the water in the pipe. The couple also reached there and they also washed accordingly. The water flowing from the pipe was crystal clear. The doctors had advised the lady that she should avoid water on her hands, as this would aggravate her disease.

The lady today was in a different world altogether. She did not remember the advice of the doctors. The muddy hands were cleaned with the water and she observed that the marks on her skin had reduced. The mud from the SEWA worked like an ointment and the water from the pipe of the Holy place washed away the terrible disease.

Sant Baba ji took leave of them, after they came to him on finishing eating the Holy Food. They came back to their village. Within a few days the skin disease disappeared and the hands of the lady became normal. The relief from the disease had to happen as she had served her preceptor altruistically and without thinking really about the consequences.

They came to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan for thanking Sant Baba ji. But this one visit was not sufficient for them. They came again and again. They always thought of coming as quickly as possible and pay homage to Sant Baba ji. They became regular visitors to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan because of the magnetic pull of Sant Baba ji.

When their son got married, they brought the newly wed couple for blessings from Sant Baba ji. Sant Baba ji asked the son, “Do you go to the temple for paying your obeisance to your Lord?”

The son replied, “No Maharaj! I recite Japji Sahib in the morning, which I have memorized with the help of my mother.”

Sant Baba ji smiled but kept silent. The lady however was anxious and said, “Maharaj ji! We have received all happiness from this place. This Kutiya is our Temple.”

This family is still continuing with the love and devotion for Nirmal Kutiya Johalan, and keep on coming here for SEWA and to seek blessings from the Holy saint. The Holy saints, who took on the responsibility of Nirmal Kutiya Johalan after Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj, made it a point to visit the house of this family, whenever they happened to be in the vicinity of the village Boparai.
