Nirmal Kutiya Johalan

THE INNER KNOWER
(Wish of Bhai Gian Singh of village Nangal Farid)

Everything in the universe acts on the orders of the Almighty. The principles of the Lord govern the discipline followed by the planets at large. This order can be seen practically being followed at Nirmal Kutiya Johalan. Everyone is under discipline – be it the sadhus of the Kutiya, the environment or the vegetation. When an ordinary person visits the Kutiya he is impressed with the surroundings.

It is however difficult for the clever people to observe the beauty around. Such a person limits his or her thoughts towards self and is unable to gain anything from such a peaceful atmosphere. The cleverness of the mind cannot be controlled easily. Mind can be arrested only when one has the grace of the Almighty and one then follows the religious path.

Bhai Harnam Singh of village Nangal Farid was attached with the Kutiya since long. He often brought his children to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan. He wanted to introduce his children into the fold of Sant Baba ji’s grace. Even while at home, he continued motivating his children to go on their own to pay their homage to Sant Baba ji and seek his blessings.

Once Bhai Harnam Singh observed that his son was sitting idle. He called him and asked him, “Why are you sitting without any work?”

The son, Gian Singh said he was through with his work.

Bhai ji told his son, “Pick up your cycle and go to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan and pay your homage to Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj.”

Gian Singh’s mind with constant visits had started leaning towards the Kutiya and he replied, “All right! I will get ready.”

After he was all set to leave, he sought permission from his father for going to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan. He then left for the Kutiya on his cycle.

On the way his cycle developed some defect and there was no mechanic within reach. He had to drag his cycle to reach the Kutiya.

He went to the Darbar Hall (The thatched hut where Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji was kept). He bowed his head in reverence in front of the Holy Book. Then he went to the Sach Khand building and genuflected. At both the places he saw offerings of money lying around unattended. Gian Singh thought that this money was lying neglected here. It would be nice if Sant Baba ji gave him some of it and his cycle could be repaired.

He then came to Sant Baba ji. He bowed his head at the feet of Sant Baba ji.

Sant Baba ji asked him, “Gurmukha! How have you come?”

Gian Singh replied, “Maharaj ji! My father had instructed me to have your DARSHAN.”

Sant Baba ji asked him, “Did you touch the feet of your father before starting from your house?”

Gian Singh replied, “Yes, Maharaj! I had sought his blessings before I started from the house.”

Gian Singh did not understand the crux of the question raised by Sant Baba ji. Therefore Sant Baba ji again said, “Did you touch the feet of your father?”

Gian Singh replied, “No, Maharaj! I had only bowed my head while standing. My father gave me a pat on the back.”

Sant Baba ji advised him, “When you now go back to your house, touch the feet of your father. You will receive his blessings. These blessings are received by only the fortunate ones.”

Gian Singh said, “Satya Vachan Maharaj!”

Sant Baba ji then asked him, “How have you come?”

Gian Singh informed Sant Baba ji that he had come on a cycle, which had developed some snag.

Sant Baba ji said, “There is lot of money lying around as a blessing of the Lord. Take the money and get your cycle repaired.”

Gian Singh was surprised to hear these words. He became worried and afraid. He found that Sant Baba ji was capable of reading the thoughts of individuals. He felt ashamed of having such thoughts in his mind.

Sant Baba ji asked him, “What are you thinking? Don’t you require the money for repairing your cycle?”

Gian Singh fell on the feet of Sant Baba ji. He said, “Maharaj ji! I have enough money with me to get my cycle repaired. I seek your blessings to not allow evil thoughts in my mind.

You know everything. Please excuse me. I assure you I will try my best not to think about money in future.”

Sant Baba ji said, “All right! Now you can leave. Don’t forget, however, to touch the feet of your father.”

Gian Singh replied, “Satya Vachan Maharaj!” He returned back to his house.

Today was an important day in his life. Sant Baba ji had given him a teaching to follow. He also understood that Sant Baba ji was a divine strength. He understood that Sant Baba ji had from the bud of worship inside blossomed into a flower full of sweet fragrance.

Only a few spiritual teachers realize this,
that without meeting the Guru, liberation is not obtained. ||4||
Everyone tells the stories told by others.
Without subduing the mind, devotional worship does not come.
When the intellect achieves spiritual wisdom, the heart-lotus blossoms forth.
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, comes to abide in that heart. ||5|| (Page 1277)

Gian Singh followed the teachings of Sant Baba ji. His father was happy that his son had been graced by Sant Baba ji.
