THE HOLY MEN DO NOT CARE FOR ANYTHING ELSE,
EXCEPT THE TRUE LORD

There was a well in the nearby fields adjoining the abode of Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj. Sardar Bhan Singh an agriculturist’s son fell in the well and died. During those days the British Government ruled over India. Such cases were not disposed of easily and were considered to be murder. Investigations were undertaken to find the truth.

A Superintendent of Police handled this case. The Police officer came to the village for an on the spot assessment. People had gathered at the place of the incident. The officer asked Sardar Bhan Singh, “Do you have animosity with anyone?”

Sardar ji did not reply. He was full of sorrow and was not in a state to reply. The Police officer said, “If you remain quiet, then we will have to uncover the truth from the other villagers. We are capable of finding the truth no matter how it is obtained.”

The officer was trying to convey to the others present that he could be ruthless in his handling. He did investigate a few but nothing came out. He then looked all around him. He saw Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj sitting under a tree, at a little distance from the place of happening. The officer obviously had no knowledge about the divine personality. The officer sent his constable to fetch Sant Baba ji for interrogation.

The constable came to Sant Baba ji and said to him, “My officer is calling you. He wants to enquire from you about the falling of the child in the well.”

Sant Baba ji said, “Your officer has instructed you to fetch me but I have the orders of my officer (The Almighty) not to go. Go and tell your officer that I am least concerned with happenings around me and do not sit here observing kids falling in the wells.”

Neither the officer nor his subordinate knew that Sant Baba ji, in the ordinary clothes was in fact a Holy person, who did not care for any commands of senior Police officers. The constable came back and informed his boss what had transpired.

The Police officer asked Sardar Didar Singh, Nambardar, who was present there, “Who is this man?”

Nambardar Didar Singh informed the officer, “He is a spiritual personality. He is away from the worldly happenings. You should not have called him to appear before you.”

The officer, on hearing these words came to Sant Baba ji and said to him, “Get up and answer my questions.”

Sardar Didar Singh felt that the officer had offended Sant Baba ji with his arrogance. He came to the officer and said to him, “SP Sahib! You are addressing a Holy saint. This saint is one with the Lord and has nothing to do with such events. You should not raise any questions from him. Instead, it will be better if you pay your homage and respects. You will receive the benevolence from the divine soul.”

While Nambardar ji was explaining to the officer, Sant Baba ji called Sardar Bhan Singh and said to him, “There is no need for going into the investigation of your son’s death. Whatever has happened is the Will of God. Take the body for cremation after seeking permission from the officer. Tell the SP that you do not have any enemies and therefore there is no need for interrogating anyone.”

Sardar Bhan Singh did as suggested by Sant Baba ji. The Police officer was impressed with the information about Sant Baba ji. He closed the investigation and permitted the body to be taken for cremation. When he now looked at Sant Baba ji, he found a different personality. He closed his eyes to keep this image of Sant Baba ji for all times to come. He saw a light emanating from the figure of Sant Baba ji. He could now only bow before the sacred personality.

He sought forgiveness from Sant Baba ji for his rudeness. He became a regular visitor to the Kutiya, after this incident.

With the blessings of Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj no such criminal case ever happened again and there has since been no case where the police had to go for a post mortem. Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj has blessed this village with happiness sought from Guru Nanak Dev ji with his austerity.
