Nirmal Kutiya Johalan

SPIRIT AND THE LORD

The Almighty had inspired Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj to perform true devotional worship. He had complete control over his mind. Selfishness and conceit had been eliminated. Absorbed in the SHABAD, he had been able to eradicate egotism and corruption from within. The people around him got attracted because his divinity pulled them like a magnet.

Dr. Atma Singh of village Johal and Pandit Kishan Chand of village Kadola had been class fellows in their medical college. Later Dr. Atma Singh started his practice in Johal as per the instructions of Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj. Pandit ji started his clinic at many places but was always short of patients.

Pandit ji knew that Dr. Atma Singh was a follower of Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj. He used to taunt his friend Dr. Atma Singh, “You are wasting your time in visiting sadhus and saints. You are an educated person and should clear your doubts by studying historical and religious books.”

Dr. Atma Singh replied, “Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj is not an ordinary saint. He is different. He is united with the Lord. You have to see him to believe what I say.”

Pandit ji did not concur with him. Even then Dr. Sahib continued to persuade Pandit ji to have the DARSHAN of Sant Baba ji.

One day Pandit ji told Dr. Sahib that he had some misgivings in his mind. He told Dr. Sahib that he would go to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan and get them clarified from Sant Baba ji. Dr. Sahib advised him, “It is good that you have decided to have DARSHAN of Sant Baba ji. I warn you not to enter into any type of dialogue with Sant Baba ji on your own. Just seek his blessings.”

Pandit ji said, “OK! I will try to follow your advice.”

Pandit ji came to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan and paid his respects to Sant ji Maharaj. The first DARSHAN was enough for him to be attracted to this ego less saint.

There was quietness all around. Not a word was spoken. Pandit ji however continued to think about the doubts he had in his mind. After much time had elapsed he could not keep mum and asked Sant Baba ji, “Maharaj ji, please tell me if ‘ROOH’ and God is different or is one?”

Sant Baba ji told him that such questions should not be raised and instead one should remember the Name of the Lord.

Pandit ji however, was not to be easily put off. He repeated his question.

Sant Baba ji counter questioned him, “Please tell me from which language is the word ‘ROOH’?”

Pandit ji replied, “It is a Persian word.”

Sant Baba ji admonished him and said, “You are trying to converse in Persian.” He then asked Pandit ji, “What do you call it in Punjabi?”

Pandit ji had the knowledge of twelve languages. He was an expert in all the languages. He thought hard but could not find an equivalent word for ‘ROOH’ in Punjabi. He became scared from Sant Baba ji. His entire ego vanished.

Sant Baba ji told him, “ROOH is ‘JEEVATMA’ in Punjabi.”

Pandit ji humbly requested Sant Baba ji to elaborate the concept

The benevolent Sant Baba ji said, “A faithful son is loved by his father. He is not different from his father. But an unfaithful son is dispossessed from the properties of his father. In such a case the father is different from the son. Sometimes there are good persons around who know about the break up. They advise the son and bring the son back to his father and make him touch the feet of his father seeking forgiveness. The father excuses the son. The father and son then do not remain different anymore.

Similarly, you have the spirit and the God. These are two but are in fact one. When they are separate, they also become one when they come under the influence of a Holy saint.”

Pandit ji was intelligent and immediately understood that in case of wrongdoer, the spirit and God are separate and it is the duty of the Holy saints to correct this position in such individuals.

He was moved by the impressive words of Sant Baba ji and became attached to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan forever.

Under the instructions of Sant Baba ji, he opened his clinic in village Kadola. His luck opened all doors of happiness for him here. He became a famous doctor and the sick from nearby villages also came for his treatment. His work in this village overshadowed the work of qualified doctors in towns.

Pandit ji was not a greedy person. If he asked a patient to pay a fee of Rs.20/- and in case the patient had only Rs.10 to offer him, he accepted the lesser amount and never asked for the balance amount.

Many a times such patients came to him who were so poor that they could not pay his fees. He never charged from such patients and instead gave free medicine to them. This compassionate nature of his though did not hamper in his earning. He had plenty.

Such persons like Pandit ji who are benevolent as well as have faith in God are rare in this world.
