Giani Lakshmi Narain Singh ji, SSP (Retd.) suffered from severe pain in the stomach. He became very weak. Rest and medicines made him a little better. When he felt a little healthier, he desired to go to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan to pay his respects to Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj. The love he had for Sant Baba ji was equally strong from the other side. He felt 219 that a powerful magnetic pull was present and no matter what, he should go to the Kutiya. His only fear was that the Doctor’s had restricted his intake of food.
Giani ji said to his wife, “If Sant ji Maharaj orders me to eat the Holy Food, I will not be able to say no.”
His wife suggested, “I will prepare some semolina pudding and carry it along. When the Holy Food is served, you can have the pudding instead.”
Giani ji said, “This is not possible. I can’t eat the pudding alone in the sangat. I think instead I will accept some portion of the Holy Food.”
The whole family reached Nirmal Kutiya Johalan. There were many devotees that day at the Kutiya. After the Kirtan and religious discourses, the sangat was asked to sit for the langar (Holy Food). Rows were made and the sangat sat there chanting SATNAM WAHEGURU. Giani ji also sat in one of the rows.
The Holy Food was served to the sangat. Only semolina pudding was served to everyone. The entire sangat was astonished to find the deviation from the usual distribution of DAL and ROTI to the pudding. Only Giani ji and his family knew the reason for this. Giani ji’s eyes were full of tears on seeing the pudding.
This incident was narrated to many people who came to meet him. He used to say to these people, “I did not know that the Almighty heard you from such a short distance. Sant ji Maharaj changed the course of Holy Food because of just one person. I sometimes think that why the thought of pudding came in my mind. If I had asked for entire blessings then these would also have been available. Sant ji Maharaj is great. He knows what all is going in the mind of his devotees.”
He Himself is pleased with His humble devotees; my Beloved Lord attaches them to Himself. The Lord blesses His humble devotees with royalty; He fashions the true crown upon their heads. (Page 590)
After many many years, Sant Baba Gian Singh ji shared the following story with the sangat.
“One day Gurudev Baba ji Sriman Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj instructed us to grind wheat in the hand mill. Sant Baba ji occasionally ate semolina and we thought that this was meant for him. When the crushing was going on, Sant Baba ji said that this was less and more of it should be crushed. After this stage was complete, Sant Baba ji asked for it to be roasted into semolina. Next day Sant Baba ji ordered for the preparation of the salty pudding of the semolina. The whole sangat, in which Giani Lakshmi Narain Singh ji was also present, ate this pudding.”
This was narrated in the year 1999, when both Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj and Giani ji had left this world and had joined the eternal light.
One can understand from this story as to how much love was present between Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj and Giani ji. Giani ji had desired for the DARSHAN of Sant Baba ji on a particular day. He had thought of eating semolina on that day whereas the preparation of semolina had started one day earlier, at the Kutiya.
Giani Lakshmi Narain Singh lived in Jalandhar Cantonment. He was quite popular because of his knowledge of Gurbani and clarity on the tenets of Sikhism. Many senior officials came to meet him. Giani ji referred to everyone about the divinity of Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj. He persuaded them to go and have DARSHAN of such a great soul. He himself accompanied many such officers to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan. The result of just one visit by these individuals was not enough and they went again and again to pay their homage to Sant ji Maharaj and sought his blessings.
Some of the names of such persons were Major Pritam Singh, Major Hazara Singh, Colonel Satjit Singh Bhullar, Colonel Chanan Singh Randhawa, Colonel Joginder Singh Sidhu, Brigadier Jaswant Singh, Brigadier Gurbax Singh, Colonel Tarlochan Singh, Sardar Dalip Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sardar Udham Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sardar Joginder Singh Mann, the then Speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Sardar Jagir Singh of Africa, Dr. Major Gulati etc.
Giani ji influenced these persons to take their families along with them to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan for paying homage and gaining some kind of learning from Sant Baba ji. Giani ji always wished that the blessings of Sant Baba ji should get distributed to as many persons as possible. Only the fortunate could get the sanctuary of such an exalted soul as Sant Baba ji.
Please save me, O Merciful Lord of the Universe! I seek Your Sanctuary, O Perfect Compassionate Lord.
