SECRETLY SUCKING MANGOES

Sardar Mohinder Singh and his brother belonged to village Bassi Hast Khan, District Hoshiarpur. Both were staunch devotees of Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj. They once bought a mango orchard. In return for a good profit they promised to offer two baskets full of mangoes to Sant Baba ji.

When the first ripe mangoes were harvested they were neatly placed in baskets. Two baskets as per promise were also filled for Sant Baba ji. It became dark by the time the truck load was ready. The brothers decided to take the mangoes to the market next morning. They also decided that the baskets meant for Sant Baba ji should also be sold as the first fruits always fetched more money. The quantity of mangoes in the fresh market is normally less and therefore chances of getting higher price was more

Since the harvesting of ripe mangoes would take a few days, they decided that the baskets meant for Sant Baba ji be prepared on a later date.

The divine powers in Sant Baba ji recognised the changed attitude of the brothers and he clearly sensed the shifting stand from the vow they had taken. Sant Baba ji secretly sucked two baskets of mangoes during the night.

Next morning the two brothers saw the two baskets with seeds and skin only. Each felt that the other had eaten the mangoes. They could not even dream of the actual happening.

On a later date the brothers brought two baskets of mangoes as offering to Sant Baba ji. Sant Baba ji said to them, “Bhai! Take these baskets back with you. I have already eaten my share of the mangoes.”

Both saw each other and realised their mistake. Both fell on the feet of Sant Baba ji and sought forgiveness.

Sant Baba ji gave his teaching, “At the first instance do not take any kind of solemn promise. But in case one does take a vow to do something then the priority should be to fulfill the promise.
