RIGHT DIRECTION SHOWN TO A SIKH WEARING A LUNGI

One day Master Mohinder Singh of Bhai Ke Samraavan was sitting close to Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj at Nirmal Kutiya Johalan. A tall well-built Sardar ji came to pay homage to Sant Baba ji. He was wearing a Lungi (A piece of garment worn by men on the lower half of the body), with a shirt, a Kirpan with Gatra and a white turban. All his clothes were white in color.

At the time of touching the feet of Sant Baba ji, Sardar ji had to bend low. His starched Lungi made puffing noise. After paying his respects he sat down on a mat and the Lungi again made a screeching noise.

Sant Baba ji saw him, smiled and started looking at the ground in front of him. After keeping quiet for some time, Sant Baba ji said, “Master ji! Once I had the occasion of going to Pakistan. At one place, I saw a Gurdwara built on a mosque. I asked the administrators of the Gurdwara – ‘what sight is this? This is neither a complete mosque nor a complete Gurdwara.’ I advised them to construct a separate Gurdwara. They took notice of my request and constructed a separate Gurdwara.”

Master ji shook his head up and down in acknowledgement to Sant Baba ji’s words.

But these words of Sant Baba ji had a different impact on the Sardar ji in the Lungi. He got up and said, “Maharaj! I have understood your teaching. From today onwards, I will not wear a Lungi and wear a pyjama instead.”

Sant Baba ji said, “O Kind Man! We have not said anything to you.”

Sardar ji replied, “Maharaj ji! Please excuse me for my mistake. I will follow the practice of Sikh tradition from now onwards.” Saying so he pulled away the Lungi he was wearing. He was however, wearing long shorts as prescribed under the Sikh code of conduct. He fell at the feet of Sant Baba ji and sought for forgiveness.

Master ji was keenly watching this incident. He thought that what a unique way Sant Baba ji had adopted to emphasize his point on an individual for his wrongdoing. Sant Baba ji had complete clarity about the Guru’s teachings and was able to remove the doubts and flawed practices of individuals quite easily.
