RESPECT FOR SIKH PRIESTS

The Sikh priests are highly respected at Nirmal Kutiya Johalan. While serving the Holy Food to the priests, they are made to sit on a white sheet laid on a long hessian mat.

After the distribution of the Holy Food, the hands of the priests are washed and the water collected in a utensil.

Once Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj asked an attendant attending on the priests, “What do you do with the water collected from the cleaning of the hands of the priests?”

The attendant replied, “Maharaj ji! The water is thrown down the drain.”

Sant Baba ji advised him, “These priests are involved in reciting the Holy Gurbani. Instead of wasting the water that has touched the hands and mouth of the priests, the same should be poured on the base of trees and plants. It will be a benediction for the trees and plants.”

Similar treatment was given to Saints and Sadhus and Mahatmas who came to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan. They were also made to sit on a white cloth laid on a hessian mat. The water collected from washing their hands was also poured into the base of trees and plants.

This practice continued during the times of Sant Baba Gian Singh ji and Sant Baba Harbhajan Singh ji ‘Virakat’ and is prevalent even today.
