Nirmal Kutiya Johalan

PROSPERITY IN A BAG
(Expansion of the land of Nirmal Kutiya Johalan)

Rare are those who even think about the happiness and welfare of others. They are incomparable and the Guru loves them and keeps them away from all kinds of troubles. In fact their wishes for the wellbeing of others get fulfilled within no time. This probably happens because these individuals have a clean heart and are blessed by some Holy saint.A landlord of village Johal had his agricultural fields adjoining the abode of Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj. He decided to sell a portion of his land just bordering the abode. This portion measured around three kanals. Sardar Chanan Singh, a devotee of Sant Baba ji, came to know about the land being up for sale.

Sardar Chanan Singh was earlier the follower of Sant Baba Harnam Singh ji Maharaj of Jiyan, the Gurudev of Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj. Once when Sardar Chanan Singh visited the Jiyan Dera, Sant Baba Harnam Singh ji Maharaj advised Sardar Chanan Singh to henceforth have his DARSHAN at Nirmal Kutiya Johalan. The first time when Sardar Chanan Singh came to the Kutiya, he had the DARSHAN of Sant Baba Harnam Singh ji Maharaj. He bowed his head at the feet of his preceptor. When he got up from that stance and looked at the Holy saint, he found Sant Baba Basant Singh ji sitting on his seat. This scene remained engrained in his mind and he became a complete devotee of Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj.

Sardar Chanan Singh came to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan and informed Sant Baba ji about the sale of the land. He suggested, “Maharaj ji! We should buy this three kanal piece of land for the Kutiya.”

Sant Baba ji replied, “Chanan Singh! There is no need for any expansion. Also one needs money for the purchase of land.”

Sardar Chanan Singh was quite close to Sant Baba ji and could have an open discussion with Sant Baba ji. He said, “This is the first time some portion of land adjoining the Kutiya land has been put up for sale. We should not miss this opportunity. The portion is small and not much money would be required.”

Sant Baba Basant Singh ji said, “Gurmukha! We have never seen money nor have touched it. One requires hard cash to purchase the land.”

There was no further discussion on the issue. Sardar Chanan Singh was given PARSHAD of sugar puffs and Sant Baba ji took leave of him.

Sardar Chanan Singh was very perturbed since he had been unable to convince Sant Baba ji for purchasing the land. He felt restless. He had a lot of respect for Sant Baba ji. Only if God had given him enough money, he would not have gone to Sant Baba ji and would have purchased the land in the name of Sant Baba ji.

In the evening, tired from the days work, he laid down on his cot in the courtyard of his house. While lying on the cot his mind was constantly reflecting on finding a way to purchase the land.

Around 9 p.m, a person in Sadhu’s attire came and stood near his cot. The Sadhu asked, “Are you Chanan Singh?”

The reply was given in the affirmative.

The Sadhu threw a small bag on the cot and said, “Keep this secured with you.”

Sardar ji got up and sat on the cot in the lotus position. He looked at the bag and then raised his head to look at the sadhu but the sadhu was not to be seen anywhere. He had never seen the sadhu earlier. Sardar Chanan Singh opened the bag and found cash in it. He was very astonished. He knew this was a miracle. Sant Baba ji had wrought a miracle.

Next morning, Sardar Chanan Singh brought the bag to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan and placed it close to where Sant Baba ji was sitting. Sardar ji informed Sant Baba ji about the incident that had happened yesterday evening. The money in the bag was counted and it came out to be thirteen thousand five hundred rupees.

Sardar Chanan Singh had made up his mind to use the money for the purchase of the portion of land up for sale. He thought that when the Sadhu whose bag he had to keep safe, returned for his money, he would arrange for it then. He felt that there was no harm in utilizing the money of one Sadhu for the benefit of another Sadhu.Sardar Chanan Singh purchased the three kanals of land with the money in the bag. He purchased the land in the name of Sant Baba Basant Singh ji. There was some money still left after the purchase and Sardar ji came to the Kutiya and placed the bag with the remaining amount in front of Sant Baba ji. Sant Baba ji angrily said, “Take away this bag.”

Sardar ji immediately picked it up. He utilized this money for purchasing further land. This was the portion of land where the old langar hall now stands near the well.

This incident amply suggests that whenever some devotee out of selfless love wants to serve a Holy saint through some means, the Almighty helps in arranging for the necessary material to fulfill his wish. These types of devotees are however, few, who think less about their own welfare and more about the wellbeing of their preceptor.

Sardar Chanan Singh was a blessed soul. He had the grace and mercy of Sant Baba ji on his head.

Sardar ji was however, curious to find about the Sadhu who had given him the bag. The Sadhu had not turned up again for the return of his bag. One day when he came to the Kutiya to pay his homage to Sant Baba ji, he could not stop himself from seeking clarity on this doubt.

Sant Baba ji replied, “The Almighty Satguru saw your devotion and dedication and presented Himself in the disguise of a Sadhu before you.”

Sardar Chanan Singh was enthused on hearing the Holy words and felt happy. He thanked the Almighty for fulfilling his wish, by arranging the funds required for purchasing the land for expanding the area of the Kutiya of Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj.
