Nirmal Kutiya Johalan

PROMOTION AWARDED TO A RECRUIT

A Holy saint with a kind heart is always a well-wisher of his followers. Sardar Kehar Singh of village Marula was a devout follower of Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj. His brother Sardar Dilbagh Singh joined the Army as a recruit. After some time in the service he came home on leave. He visited the Kutiya of Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj for his DARSHAN.

He paid his respects to Sant Baba ji and sat close to him. The divine saint said to him, “Welcome Jamadar ji! How are you?” (The rank of ‘Jamadar’ in the Army has been replaced with that of ‘Naib Subedar’ now.)

Sardar Dilbagh Singh thought that he was a recruit and why then Sant Baba ji addressed him as a ‘Jamadar’. Sant Baba ji must have mistaken him for someone else. Before he could reply, Sant Baba ji said to him, “Bhai Dilbagh Singh! Are you coming directly from Marula or have come here from some other place?”

The doubt that had arisen in the mind of Dilbagh Singh was immediately cleared by Sant Baba ji with his next question. Sardar ji replied, “Maharaj ji! I am coming straight from Marula for your DARSHAN.”

Sardar ji respected the spiritual powers of Sant Baba ji and thought that there must be some specific reason for him being addressed as ‘Jamadar’. He was aware that one graceful glance of a Holy saint like Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj was enough to change the life of a person.

He was given Parshad of sugar puffs and Sant Baba ji took leave of him.

After finishing his leave Dilbagh Singh reported back for his duty. His seniors announced a scheme for preparing the blueprint of a project. Sardar ji also participated in the scheme. He prepared the project with the blessings of Sant Baba ji. He kept all the crucial issues in mind while preparing the blueprint.

Simple and truthful living always gets rewarded. The English Officer, who examined all the drawings, found that the one prepared by Sardar Dilbagh Singh was the best. He selected the drawing and appreciated the efforts of Sardar ji. The Officer remarked, “A person with such brains should not remain a recruit and deserves to be promoted as a Jamadar.”

Sardar Dilbagh Singh soon received orders for his promotion on the recommendation of his senior. When he became a Jamadar he immediately remembered the Holy words of Sant Baba ji. He bowed his head in reverence. He knew that the promotion was a blessing of Sant Baba ji and could not have been attained so soon even through his best efforts or with any kind of astuteness.

Please shower me with Your Mercy, O Lord God!
I have given up my excessive cleverness and scheming,
and I have taken the support of the Saints as my mind’s support.
Even a puppet of ashes attains the supreme status,
O Nanak, if it has the help and support of the Saints. ||23|| (Page 255)

He therefore took special leave and came to pay his homage to Sant Baba ji at Nirmal Kutiya Johalan. He thanked the Holy saint for all his kindness.

The families of Sardar Dilbagh Singh and his brother Sardar Kehar Singh continue to be in the fold of Nirmal Kutiya Johalan. Though the children of Dilbagh Singh are settled in England yet they continue to express their love by frequently visiting the Kutiya to pay their homage.

Sardar Kehar Singh expresses his respect and immense faith by announcing to his friends and relatives, “Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj is still present in the Kutiya and has not gone anywhere. Such great MAHAPURAKHS only change their living clothes and do not go anywhere.”

The family that has so much faith has certainly to remain blessed always.
