Nirmal Kutiya Johalan

PARSHAD OF SUGAR PUFFS

Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj had a fixed routine of going daily to a nearby village to collect food as alms. Bhojowal, Nangal Shama and Muzzafarpur were some of the villages he visited. As soon as he received the food, which comprised of a couple of roti’s and lentils, he ate the same standing there. Thereafter he did not proceed further and returned back to his abode.

The villagers of Bhojowal were a fortunate lot as three great saints visited this village to collect food as alms. The great saints who blessed the village with their Holy feet were Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj, his successor Sant Baba Gian Singh ji Maharaj and thereafter Sant Baba Harbhajan Singh ‘Virakat’ Ji Maharaj. The farmers of this village have been serving Nirmal Kutiya Johalan with love and devotion and continue to do so even now. To this day some farmers bring cooked food daily to the Kutiya.

A lady of this village, had trust and faith in Sant Baba ji. Once her son fell sick. In spite of many treatments, his fever was not becoming normal. One day, the lady picked up her ailing son and brought him to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan. She laid her son in front of Sant Baba ji. She prayed innocently with folded hands, “Bhai ji! My son is very sick. Please treat him and make him healthy.”

The simple words of the lady expressed deep love and devotion. It seemed that a small child was seeking something from the father.

Sant Baba ji said to her, “O Mai! I am not a doctor. How can I treat your child?”

The lady naively replied, “Bhai ji! I have not come to a doctor for the treatment. I have come to you to fulfill my mind’s desire. I seek from you good health for my son.” She then humbly, but with conviction, added, “Bhai ji! You come to our village for your daily food. How then can you expect me to go to someone else for the well being of my son?”

Sant Baba ji smiled at the innocence but firm dedication of the lady. Sant Baba ji said to her, “O Lady! Pick up the child and take him to Sri Guru Granth Sahib’s room and bow the head of your son in front of Guru Sahib.”

The lady obeyed and picked up her child. She went to the Darbar Hall and made her son genuflect in front of the Holy Book. She then came back and paid her homage to Sant Baba ji.

Sant Baba ji asked Sant Baba Gian Singh ji, who was present there, “Santa! Give parshad of sugar puffs to the lady.”

Sant Baba Gian Singh ji brought five sugar puffs in a plate and Sant Baba Basant Singh ji graced the same with his Holy eyes. Sant Baba ji said, “Santa! Parshad be given to the lady.”

Sant Baba ji addressed the lady and said, “Please serve the parshad of the sugar puffs to your son. The Almighty will bless him.”

The lady accepted the parshad with full respect. She said to Sant Baba ji, “This is all that I required. I am confident that my son will now become all right and his pains will be eliminated. You are kind and compassionate to have given your blessings.”

Sant Baba ji asked her to recite ‘WAHEGURU’, the Name of the Lord. She was then asked to leave.

The lady returned to her house full of joy and ecstasy, with her son. At home, she served all the five sugar puffs to her son. She recited ‘Waheguru’ the Name of the Lord again and again. The child soon regained his normal health. The heart of the lady sang glorious praises for Sant Baba ji. She had tremendous faith in the merciful and forgiving Sant Baba ji.

People asked her, “Which doctor has treated your child that he has become all right overnight?”

The lady replied, “My doctor sits in Nirmal Kutiya Johalan. Sant Baba ji has given the medicine of Lord’s Name to my son and he has now regained good health.”

The words in the following verse of Gurbani were fulfilled.

The Holy Saint has given me the Medicine of the Naam. My sins have been cut out, and I have become pure.
I am filled with bliss, and all my pains have been taken away. All my suffering has been dispelled. ||2|| (Page 101)

It is because of the blessings of Sant Baba ji that most of the families of these nearby villages are baptized with the ambrosial nectar of the two edged sword.

It may be mentioned here that the ladies at that time addressed Sant Baba ji as ‘Bhai ji!’
