Nirmal Kutiya Johalan

NO ONE ELSE KNOWS THE MYSTERY OF HIS WAYS

(ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਹੋਰੁ ||)

The Holy saints never face shortage of anything in their life. Their needs are very less. They wear limited clothes and do not have the requirement of warm clothes during the winter season. Their intake of food is very less and they keep fasts for many days. They remain happy even if there is no food available. Limited food does not affect in any manner the strength of their body or that of their mind. Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj took very little food. While he was in Nirmal Kutiya Johalan, no one seems to have seen him eating anything except the Karah Parshad.

The followers of such divine personalities however, are always eager to perform all kinds of service for them. The devotees consider it their privilege and pleasure in serving the Holy saints. Since the requirements are quite less even an ordinary family man is able to perform one kind of service or other.

Before shifting his dwelling to village Johal, Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj lived for a month’s time in the nearby town of Jandu Singha. He lived here in the upper storey of the house of Bhai Jagga Singh. Bhai Jagga Singh served Sant Baba ji with all his love and respect. Sant Baba ji remained inside the room during the daytime and went out to the sand dunes for his worship at night. Sant Baba ji wore sandals of Pacchian (made from bagasse).

Bhai Jagga Singh though uneducated remembered the entire Bani’s of NITNEM. Whenever Bhai Jagga Singh did not get up on his own in the morning, Sant Baba ji used to wake him up. Sant Baba ji reminded him of the ambrosial hour for the recitation of Gurbani and the Name of the God.

For many days Bhai ji felt that the wake up call of Sant Baba ji was a dream. But when this continued non-stop, he came to Sant Baba ji and requested him, “Patshah! Whenever I don’t get up in the morning on my own, I see you and hear your voice waking me up. You are very kind to me. But I fail to understand how you are able to come to me when all the windows and doors of my room are closed?”

Sant Baba ji smiled and said, “It is you who is able to see and hear and therefore you should know how it happens.”

Bhai Jagga Singh understood that such questions and clarifications should not be sought from divine persons. He felt that the words he heard with his ears and the scene he saw with his eyes should be enough to have opened his inner eyes. If this does not happen then there is something surely wrong with the individual. Sant Baba ji alerted his beloved devotee appearing before him in the spirit form.

One day Sant Baba ji called Bhai ji over to him. He showed his naked stomach to him and said, “Jagga Singh! See this stomach. I have not eaten anything.” Saying this Sant Baba ji went outside for his meditation.

Bhai Jagga Singh was moved by this gesture and prepared semolina for Sant Baba ji with his own hands and all the love. He placed it in a lunch box and went out in search of Sant Baba ji. He was unable to locate Sant Baba ji in spite of his moving around from place to place. Jagga Singh then sat down and prayed to Sant Baba ji, “Maharaj ji! The semolina is getting cold. Please appear immediately and eat it.”

Sant Baba ji appeared before him. He bowed at the feet of Sant Baba ji and kept the box of semolina in front of him. He requested Sant Baba ji, “Please accept this.”

Sant Baba ji was happy to see the love in the eyes of Jagga Singh and after looking at the semolina said, “One should eat something soft like semolina after fasting. It is good for the stomach.”

Sant Baba ji ate a few spoons of semolina and gave the rest to Jagga Singh. The blessed Jagga Singh ate the Seet Parshad with all humbleness.
