Kabeer, nothing is mine within myself. Whatever there is, is Yours, O Lord.
If I surrender (Offer anything) to You what is already Yours, what does it cost me?
I never owned anything. ||203|| (Page 1375)

People, who are able not only to converge their thoughts for the Almighty in the manner mentioned in the above verse, but also practically follow what they say, are rare in this world. There are few who appreciate the fact as reality. Anyone who does come in this category is a person truly blessed by the Lord almighty.

Sardar Gurcharan Singh son of Sardar Karam Singh lived in England. He had full respect for Nirmal Kutiya Johalan. Sant Baba Gian Singh ji Maharaj’s blessings were always with him. This was the reason that he was passing his life cheerfully.

Whenever he came to India, the attraction of Nirmal Kutiya Johalan was so powerful that he forgot all about his personal chores and immediately visited the Kutiya to pay homage to the revered saint.

He had constructed a house in Mohali, Chandigarh for his stay in India. He had a long desire that Sant Maharaj ji should visit his house in Mohali and bless it with his Holy feet. He wanted an Akhand Path to be carried out in the house so that his usually vacant house became a place for public to visit.

After consulting his family members, he made up his mind to transfer the rights of his house. He executed a registered deed and the property was transferred in the name of Sant Baba Gian Singh ji.

He came to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan to pay his homage to Sant Maharaj ji who had showered all his blessings on him. Sant Maharaj ji was sitting with a smile on his face. Sardar Gurcharan Singh touched the feet of Sant Maharaj ji. Sant Maharaj ji recognized him and asked him, “Sahib! Is everything all right in England?”

Sardar ji replied, “Yes, Maharaj! With your blessings everything is fine.”

Sant Maharaj ji said, “Sahib! God is really merciful and compassionate.”

Thereafter there was complete silence for some time till Sardar ji got up from where he was sitting and came to Sant Maharaj ji. He bowed at the feet of the Holy saint and then placed the papers containing the registered deed of his Property No. 1260, Phase 9, Mohali, along with the keys of the house in front of Sant Maharaj ji.

Sant Maharaj ji asked him, “Sahib! What is this?”

Sardar ji tried to assimilate all his humility and said, “Patshah! The house at Mohali is with me because of your blessings. It is not being used and does not serve the purpose for which it was constructed. I request that the sangat bless it with its presence. Please make this house really honored with your blessings.”

Sant Maharaj ji said, “Kothis are meant for Sahibs. Saints are happy and contented living in a hut.”

Sant Maharaj ji had no inclination towards worldly comforts and things. He was a true ascetic and greed was nowhere near him. The devotees in the sangat sitting there felt that Sardar ji had made a big mistake by raising this issue before Sant Maharaj ji. Some of them felt that Sardar ji would have to face the wrath of Sant Maharaj ji now.

There is a vast difference between the thoughts of ordinary persons vis-à-vis a complete ascetic. Whereas the ordinary person does not go beyond the spoken words of the individual, Sant Maharaj ji is capable of looking deeply into the heart of the individual. He could understand the deep love or surrender of his devotee.

Sardar ji again requested, “The property is your blessing and I offer this blessing back to you. Please accept my humble request and bless me further with your kindness. Please bless the house by accepting these papers.”

Sant Maharaj ji did not reply and the environment became serene and quiet. Sant Maharaj ji’s hands were busy in straightening the folds of the scarf. ‘Virakat’ ji Maharaj was sitting beside him. The moment of blessing was around.

Braham Giani Sant Maharaj ji said, “A lion once lived in a cave in a jungle. One day the lion came out of his den and went in search for its prey. During his absence, three Holy saints while passing the cave thought of resting for some time. Considering the cave to be safe, they entered to spend the night. All of them were tired and stretched to relax. They immediately fell asleep.

After some time the lion came back with his belly full. He soon became aware of the wandering saints resting in his den. The Almighty made him conscious of their presence and the lion thought that he should not disturb the sleeping saints. He came outside and slept in the open. During the night there was snowfall in the area and the lion was completely covered with it. The lion expired.

In the morning, unaware of the happening, the saints left the cave and started on their journey.

The lion appeared in the court of Dharamraj, after his death for the judgement of his deeds on earth. Dharamraj said, “O Lion! You are great. Your accounts show that your one deed in the last world was really extraordinary.”

The lion however, was astonished on hearing these words.

Dharamraj said, “I am talking about the incident of your cave. When three Holy persons were resting in your den, you did not disturb them and allowed them to sleep peacefully. You slept outside your den. You have been blessed because of such a good conduct towards the Holy men. Your life as a lion has now ended and you now step into a new life because of this one deed. You will now take birth as a very wealthy person. You will be the owner of lot of wealth, land and many servants to look after you. After rebirth, the lion received all such benefits”. With these words Sant Maharaj ji ended his story.

Sardar Gurcharan Singh, on hearing this story felt in his heart that Sant Maharaj ji had accepted his request. He felt elated inside.

Sant Maharaj ji then said to ‘Virakat’ ji, “The devotees of Chandigarh have tremendous love for Guru Sahib. What do you suggest should be done in this case?”

Virakat ji Maharaj replied, “Maharaj! Your words are true. Sardar Gurdit Singh of Chandigarh is present here in the sangat. His advice may kindly be taken.”

Sant Maharaj ji said, “All right! That will be good.”

Sardar Gurdit Singh’s suggestion was sought and he said, “Maharaj ji! Whatever is your order, the same will be followed.”

Sant Maharaj ji said, “Gurdit Singh! Arrange a Nishan Sahib and the same be installed in the premises, indicating the place to be of Sikh worship. The Holy Book of Sri Guru Granth Sahib should be ritually placed in a room in the house.”

Sardar Gurdit Singh said, “Whatever you say is correct. It will be better Maharaj, if you grace the auspicious occasion with your presence.”

Sant Maharaj ji agreed.

Sardar Gurcharan Singh was a relieved man. He was happy at the outcome. He prayed in his mind, “The life of the lion, an animal was made fortunate, please be kind to me also.”

A Gurdwara was established in the house of Sardar Gurcharan Singh. It was inaugurated by Sant Baba Gian Singh ji Maharaj. Virakat ji Maharaj was also present on the occasion.

Sant Maharaj ji said on this occasion, “Where ever there is the Holy Book of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, the recitation of the Name of the Lord will be carried out by the sangat. The Holy Hymns will be read and sung by the devotees of Guru Nanak.”

The devotion and love of Sardar Gurcharan Singh has today converted his house into a temple and it is now visited daily by the sangat.

A five-member committee looks after the administration of the Gurdwara. At present these five members are carrying on the work with great enthusiasm. Akhand Paths are carried out regularly in the Gurdwara. People participate to listen to the Kirtan on the first Sunday of the month. It has now become a routine that the Bhog of Akhand Path is undertaken on every third Sunday of the month,
