GURBANI KIRTAN IS A BLESSING OF THE GURU

Giani Beant Singh ‘Bijli’ was a highly acclaimed Sikh musician. He had started singing the Holy Hymns in his melodious voice when he was just nine years old. Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj once visited the city of Phillaur. Giani Beant Singh belonged to Phillaur. Here a congregation was held and Giani Beant Singh performed during the congregation. He sang melodiously and received the kind blessings from Sant Baba ji.

Giani ji came regularly to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan. Once in a gathering at Nirmal Kutiya Johalan, Giani ji was performing Kirtan with his group. He modulated his voice to a very high pitch. Prof Darshan Singh ‘Komal’ sitting behind him was impressed with the performance of Bijli ji. He said in a matter of fact way, “Bijli ji! Please lower your pitch. If you don’t control it, I am afraid your notes may not bring down the stars.”

On another occasion Bijli ji sang a verse of Gurbani by joining two melodies. The musical notes touched the heart of Giani Lakshmi Narain Singh (Retd. SSP), sitting nearby who uttered the words, “Wah! Wah!”

Bijli ji never felt proud of the possession of the consummate skill of singing the Holy Hymns in different Ragas. He always felt that his talent was a blessing of Sant Baba ji.
