Sardar Bhagat Singh was a resident of village Dhamai. He was blessed with a son. He was very happy. He was a devotee of Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj. He thought the Grace of the Lord was instrumental in blessing him with a son. He should thank Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj for his kindness and request the Holy saint to name the child.
He bought crystallised sugar as offering and went to pay his homage to Sant Baba ji at Nirmal Kutiya Johalan. He bowed at the feet of Sant Baba ji.
Sant Baba ji asked him,”Singha! From where have you come?”
Bhagat Singh replied, “Maharaj ji! I have come from village Dhamai.”
Sant Baba ji asked him to sit down.
Bhagat Singh took a MURRA and sat on it. After some time he said, “Maharaj ji! You have blessed me with a son. I thank you from the core of my heart. Please be kind enough to grace the child and give him a name.”
Sant Baba ji kept quiet and did not reply.
Bhagat Singh thought that Sant Baba ji must be thinking a name for his son and was therefore quietly contemplating on it.
After some time Sant Baba ji asked an attendant, “It is always good to serve the Sikhs. Please serve milk and snacks.”
Sant Baba ji took leave of Bhagat Singh when he came back after he had taken milk and snacks.
Next day Bhagat Singh was again at the Kutiya and repeated his request. Sant Baba ji did not go into any sort of discussion with him. Bhagat Singh decided that he will not go back to his village till Sant ji Maharaj provided a name for his child.
He continued coming to the Kutiya and repeated his request for six days. But there was no reply.
On the seventh day Sant Baba ji took leave of him the moment he had paid his homage. He stood up and said, “Maharaj ji! I have been coming to the Kutiya daily and seeking a name for my child. Please, I beg of you to provide a name for my child.”
Sant Baba ji asked Bhagat Singh, “Do you really want to know the name?”
Bhagat Singh replied in the affirmative.
Sant Baba ji took Bhagat Singh along with him and came outside the Kutiya. After walking for some time, Sant Baba ji stopped and sat under the shade of a tree.
Sant Baba ji said, “Bhagat Singh! We Sadhus have very ordinary names. You should therefore not question me if an ordinary name is given to you.”
Bhagat Singh said, “Maharaj ji! Please bless me. I am no one to question you.”
Sant Baba ji said, “Bhagat Singh! It has been six days now. We have searched for a name for your child even from the third world but we have not been able to find any name. Your son will die after spending 18 days in this world. After some time this son will again take birth in your family. Keep the name of this son after prayers and from the HUKAMNAMA of Sri Guru Granth Sahib as per the ritual. After that you will be blessed with another son. You should get your sons initiated into Khalsa through the acceptance of the Holy nectar. Now go home. Don’t grieve and do not let anyone cry over the death of this child.”
Sant Baba ji gave him the teachings by quoting from the following verse from the Gurbani:
What do I know? How will I die? What sort of death will it be? If I do not forget the Lord Master from my mind, then my death will be easy. The world is terrified of death; everyone longs to live. By Guru’s Grace, one who dies while yet alive,
understands the Lord’s Will. (Page 555)
Sardar Bhagat Singh’s in laws lived in village Kaharpur. His son had been delivered there because the wife had as per custom gone to her parents house for the delivery. He reached Kaharpur after 18 days of his son’s birth. As he entered the village, he saw his relatives coming back after the funeral of his child. The relatives wanted to hide the news of the son’s death from Bhagat Singh.
Bhagat Singh said to them, “You need not hide anything from me. I was told ten days earlier that my child will live in this world only for 18 days. I know my child is dead.”
Kaharpur is blessed with the abode of Sant Baba Hari Singh, Guru brother of Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj. Bhagat Singh went to pay his homage to Sant Baba Hari Singh ji.
Bhagat Singh narrated his story about the child’s birth and the words of Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj.
Sant Baba Hari Singh ji had been blessed with the divine light and understood the happening of the event in the life of Bhagat Singh. He said to him,”Bhagat Singh! Sant Baba Basant Singh ji is really great. He has the knowledge of happenings in all the three worlds.”
O Nanak, those who chant Waaho! Waaho! are immaculate and pure; they obtain the knowledge of the three worlds. ||2||(Page 515)
Sant Baba Hari Singh advised Bhagat Singh, “Please do not go away from the Grace of such a great saint. Keep on bowing at his feet and all your works will be completed.”
Sant Baba Basant Singh ji’s prediction came out to be true. Bhagat Singh was blessed with two sons. Both the sons are now initiated into the order of Khalsa. The entire family is devoted to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan.
