Nirmal Kutiya Johalan

FULL FAITH IN SANT BABA JI

Those who have tasted the sublime essence of God’s Love, remain satisfied and fulfilled. The Almighty however sometimes tests their faith and they come out successful by renouncing their selfishness and expressing true love and devotion.

Bhai Rattan Singh of village Dakoha was a follower of Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj. He had full confidence and faith in Sant Baba ji and followed the ideals taught by him. He accepted the Will of God when his child expired at birth. His wife gave birth to many children but none could survive the clutches of death. Someone suggested to Bhai Rattan Singh that since he was a devotee of Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj, he should seek solution for his misery from Sant Baba ji.

His attachment to the Kutiya grew and he frequently visited Nirmal Kutiya Johalan. Both he and his wife accepted the ambrosial nectar of the two edged sword at the Kutiya. The couple stood before Sri Guru Granth Sahib in the Darbar Hall and prayed to the Almighty for His blessings.

Bhai Rattan Singh had immense faith in Sant Baba ji and he knew that he would be showered happiness.

With the blessings of the Almighty, his wife gave birth to a son. The child lived for eight months in this world and expired.

Bhai Rattan Singh was not at home when the child expired. He was working and came to know about the death only when he reached back home. His bereaved wife pleaded with him, “Though our child has expired, yet we should cremate him after bowing his head at the feet of Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj.”

Her words conveyed the profound respect she had for Sant Baba ji. Bhai Rattan Singh did not agree to this suggestion. He felt that there was no need for obeisance by a dead child.

But the wife insisted. She said, “Earlier our children died just on birth. This time the child had come to this world with Sant Baba ji’s blessings and he lived for eight months. It is because of our attachment to the Kutiya and love for Sant Baba ji that our son lived this long. It will be proper to let the child have his last DARSHAN of Sant Baba ji.”

It became dark but there was no end to the discussion. At last Bhai Rattan Singh had to bow to the wishes of his wife. Both came to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan on a cycle while the wife was carrying the child in her lap. It was quite late and the main gate of the Kutiya was closed.

Pandit Gulwant Singh who attended on Sant Baba ji came to the gate on seeing them and asked about the nature of their visit at this odd hour. Bhai Rattan Singh explained the situation. He requested Pandit ji to permit them inside the Kutiya so that the child could pay his last obeisance to Sant Baba ji.

Sant Baba ji heard the voices at the gate and loudly asked Pandit Gulwant Singh ji, “Pandit ji! With whom are you talking at this late hour?”

Pandit ji standing there stated, “Maharaj ji! Someone has come for your DARSHAN.”

Sant Baba ji had anger in his voice when he said, “This is no time to visit the Kutiya. Ask them to leave this place immediately.”

Pandit ji was helpless and could not do anything for the couple and asked them to leave. He himself came to Sant Baba ji. Pandit ji could talk freely with Sant Baba ji as he was very close to him. He was not happy at the treatment meted out to the grieved couple. He said to Sant Baba ji, “Maharaj ji! At least listen to the wishes of your followers who are in distress.”

Sant Baba ji did not reply. It was as if he had not heard the words of Pandit ji.

All actions of Sant Baba ji had deep meaning with hidden mystery. Since the action and result was different for different situations, no one could easily understand these actions. Not even the closest of his associates.

The real devotees however ignored the anger of Sant Baba ji and felt that Sant Baba ji was administering some sort of teaching to them. It was considered as a father admonishing his child for his mistake.

Bhai Rattan Singh and his wife did not get upset from the reaction of Sant Baba ji. They felt that it was their mistake to have come and disturbed Sant Baba ji at this late hour. They paid their obeisance by genuflecting on the ground outside the gate. The child’s forehead was also touched to the ground.

It was summer season and it was quite hot. There used to be a hand pump near the gate during those days. The couple was thirsty and felt that before starting back for their residence they should drink water. When the mother was about to drink water from her cupped 350 hand she thought of her son. She said, “I am an unfortunate woman. I am drinking water and my son cannot. Let me first serve water to my son.”

Saying this she placed the cupped hand full of water on the lips of her son. The child drank the water. She was thrilled to see this and started shouting, “Sant Baba ji has blessed us. My child drank the water.”

The mother again gave water to the child with her cupped hand and the child drank that water also. She could not control herself and shouted, “My child is alive. My child is alive.”

Bhai Rattan Singh and his wife both were in tears and were in a state of ecstasy. They bowed their heads again and again on the Holy ground and then thanking Sant Baba ji went home.

Next morning, Deg was prepared and Bhai Rattan Singh with his family came to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan to pay homage to Sant Baba ji. The child was also with them. After touching the feet of Sant Baba ji, Bhai ji sat close to Sant Baba ji.

Pandit Gulwant Singh was informed about the miracle. He was very happy to listen to the strange happening.

Sant Baba ji said to Pandit ji, “You were saying something in the evening yesterday. I could not get you. What was it about?”

Pandit ji became emotional when he narrated the entire episode to Sant Baba ji. Pandit ji repented for his arrogance.

Sant Baba ji advised, “Rattan Singh! Go and thank the Almighty. Pay your obeisance to the benevolent Guru, Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. Offer your prayers and thank the Lord who has been kind to you.”

Sant Baba ji then gave his teaching to Bhai Rattan Singh, “Always recite Gurbani with love and affection. Remember the One Lord who has blessed you.”

The child now is a grown man and comes to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan. He is completely attached to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan.
