Nirmal Kutiya Johalan

EVERYTHING IS IN THE HANDS OF GOD

The Almighty governs the life of all individuals. The entire universe follows the rules prescribed by Him. The brain of all individuals is dissimilar. Every individual thinks differently. Everyone stands at a distinctive level when considered from the point of view of ego.

Arrogance in a person needs to be controlled, as the Almighty remains far away if one is full of vanity. Even if a person is treading the path of truth, his character will come in the way. It is however clear that if one wants the happiness of the Satguru the ego has to be sacrificed.

Once the sangat at Nirmal Kutiya Johalan was sitting in the rows waiting for the langar to be served. The sangat was reciting – ‘Satnam Waheguru!’

The attendants started the distribution. One of the attendants had the duty to serve Roti Parshadeh (baked bread) to the sangat. He was serving Roti Parshadeh to everyone, when he saw a humble Sikh sitting in the row. While giving the Roti Parshadeh to this Sikh, he angrily said, “You have not undertaken any SEWA, but even then you are here eating langar.” He then gave the Parshadeh to him with complete reluctance.

There was arrogance and anger in the words of the attendant. The humble Sikh however did not respond and kept quiet. He received the Roti Parshadeh with due respect.

Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj, sitting close by had however heard these words. He immediately stopped the attendant from performing his service. The attendant was called and Sant ji Maharaj asked him, “Whose langar is it that you are serving?”

The attendant could not speak anything.

Sant Baba ji explained to him, “The langar is of the Guru and the Guru’s sangat has to eat it. You are just a server whereas you are acting as if you are the GIVER. You don’t own the langar. In fact the langar is not owned by anyone. It is a blessing of the Almighty on his humble Sikhs. A person who is serving the langar is thus fortunate that he has been given the authority to distribute what the Almighty has given. Everyone in the sangat is equal for the attendant. SEWA performed with ego has no meaning.”

The attendant realized his mistake and sought forgiveness. Sant Baba ji however, did not permit him to carry on with the service of an attendant.

Sant Baba ji showed the right path to his followers. He impressed on them the fact that the Almighty is the only One who cares for the needs of the people and everyone should seek His Grace. The Almighty had sent Sant Baba ji to guide the people in the society.

The egotist has no place in a sangat whereas the humble are glorified.
