DRY UDDER OF A GOAT

A devotee from village Gardhiwala came to pay homage to Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj at Nirmal Kutiya Johalan. He sat there looking at the great saint, but Sant ji Maharaj did not speak a word.

He became a little restless and requested Sant Baba ji, “Maharaj ji! There is acute shortage of milk for my family.”

Sant Baba ji said, “We do not distribute milk here.”

The devotee humbly requested, “Maharaj ji! What is milk for you? You have the inaccessible stores of all material things in your hand. Please bless this wretched soul also.”

Sant Baba ji smiled and said, “Get a buffalo.”

The man replied, “Maharaj ji! I do not have enough money to purchase a buffalo.”

Sant Baba ji advised him to buy a cow instead.

The man said he did not have enough money to even buy a cow.

Then Sant Baba ji said, “Go and buy a goat.”

The man replied, “Satya Vachan Maharaj!” He happily left for his home. He thought on the way that he had received the blessings and guidance from Sant Baba ji. He was really a lucky man. He decided to bring the milk of his goat and serve Sant Baba ji.

He bought a goat as per the advice of Sant Baba ji. He knew his family would not feel any shortage of milk now. He had full faith in the words of Sant Baba ji.

The goat gave so much milk that all the members were amply served. He however, in the excitement of having got enough for his family forgot his promise to bring milk for Sant Baba ji.

Suddenly one day, one of the udders of the goat became dry and no milk flowed from it. When the problem became acute and he could not find any solution, he again came to find a solution from Sant Baba ji.

He informed Sant Baba ji, “Maharaj ji! As per your instructions I had purchased a goat. There was no shortage of milk and there was enough for every one. Now one of the udders of the goat has gone dry. I am unable to find the reason. Please bless me and my goat with your Holiness and grant free flow of milk from both the udders.”

Sant Baba ji said, “I am not responsible for your goat.”

The devotee said, “Maharaj ji! It was with your blessing that everyone was enjoying the sweet milk. Please do not disappoint me.”

Sant Baba ji said, “Well! I do not seem to be included in your definition of everyone.”

When the devotee heard these words, he was suddenly reminded of the promise he had made after receiving the blessings. He fell at the feet of Sant ji Maharaj and said, “Maharaj ji! I have made a grave mistake.”

Sant Baba ji said to him, “Bhai! I have not said anything to you.”

The devotee said, “Maharaj ji! Last time while going back after your DARSHAN, I had vowed to bring milk of the goat to the Kutiya. I am sorry. I have been using the milk and forgot to bring it here. Please bless my goat so that I may be able to fulfill my vow.”

The benevolent Sant Baba ji said, “Tomorrow, milk the goat after saying your prayers to the Lord. Waheguru is kind and will grace you.”

Next day the devotee milked the goat after offering sincere prayers to the Lord, and to his pleasant surprise, the milk flowed from both the udders. He brought the milk to serve the sangat at the Kutiya.

Sant Baba ji spoke the following words of advice, “Whenever you take a vow, you have the duty to fulfill the same. In case you do not do it then its account will be settled in the next world.”

The devotee understood clearly the reason for the udder of the goat having dried and why now there was free flow of the milk.
