Nirmal Kutiya Johalan

DESIRE OF GIANI PRITAM SINGH

Giani Pritam Singh regularly attended the SEWA as a priest during the Akhand Paths of Sri Guru Granth Sahib at Nirmal Kutiya Johalan. He recited Gurbani very carefully and his utterances were pleasing to the ears of the listener. He was in the fold of Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj before the partition of the country.

Once during the SHRAADH days, Giani Pritam Singh, head priest brought KHIR (a sweet dish made of milk and rice) prepared at his house to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan. Giani ji after paying his obeisance to Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj sat in the sangat. Giani ji observed that Sardar Hari Singh of village Nangal Farid was also sitting in the sangat. Sardar Hari Singh was a relative of Giani Pritam Singh.

When Giani ji saw Hari Singh, he felt happy and thought, “It is good that Hari Singh is here. He will also be able to eat the KHIR brought by me.”

The antenna of Sant Baba ji immediately caught hold of this thought.

Sant Baba ji asked him, “Giani ji! How have you come?”

Giani ji replied, “Patshah! I have brought KHIR for you to relish.”

Sant Baba ji asked him, “Giani ji! Is the KHIR meant for us or for someone else?”

Giani ji was perturbed with this question. The thoughts flowing in his mind were immediately caught by Sant Baba ji. He cursed himself for thinking about his relative. He kept quiet, as there was no answer, which he could think of.

Sant Baba ji asked Sant Baba Gian Singh ji, “Santa! Distribute the KHIR in the langar. It would be nice that a dish brought to the Kutiya is distributed to everyone to relish.”

The teachings of Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj were clear. When once you are at the Kutiya, the only thing for you to do is to remember the Name of the Almighty and take away all kinds of thoughts from your mind. Remembrance of the Lord is absolute when one does not think about oneself.
