Nirmal Kutiya Johalan

BLESSINGS OF A WALKING STICK

The failing health of Giani Lakshmi Narain Singh ji, retired SSP did not permit him to go to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan as often as he desired. One day some one came to his house in Jalandhar Cantt in a car. Giani ji made him agree to take him to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan to pay homage to Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj.

Giani ji reached Nirmal Kutiya Johalan with his wife and two sons. Sant Baba ji was sitting outside under the shade of a tree. Sant Baba Gian Singh ji was also sitting nearby. Giani ji bowed his head at the feet of Sant Baba ji. Then he went inside and paid his homage to Sri Guru Granth Sahib. When everyone came back to Sant Baba ji, mats had been laid for the sangat to sit on.

Sangat was served milk and snacks and afterwards Parshad of sugar puffs was served. Sant ji Maharaj did not utter any word. He kept on rotating the stick he had in his hand. He though had a smile on his face.

Sangat was taken leave of by Sant Baba ji. Giani ji came forward and bowed his head touching the ground in front of Sant Baba ji. Rest of the family was standing and waiting for their turn to bow in front of Sant Baba ji. The body of Giani ji became completely numb after he had genuflected. He could not move himself. He tried twice to lift himself up but the knees could not bear his weight.

Sant ji Maharaj extended his stick and said to him, “Sarkar! Lean on the stick and try to get up.” Sant Baba ji had a special glow on his face and his spoken words were very sweet.

Giani ji took hold of Sant Baba ji’s stick and leaned on it. Both the knees and one of his hands were on the ground and his head was bowing. He shifted his weight on one knee and raised the other. Slowly and steadily shifting the weight to Sant Baba ji’s stick he then raised the second knee. He stood on his feet with the stick firmly held in his hand.

Within moments the weakness he had felt some time ago vanished. He cleaned the stick with his handkerchief and told his elder son, “Keep this near Sant Baba ji.”

Sant ji Maharaj said, “Sarkar! Keep it with you for your use.”

Giani ji replied, “Satya Vachan!” He immediately touched the blessed stick to his forehead.

Once at home he discussed with his family of the sudden weakness he had experienced, while he was feeling all right before starting from the house. Perhaps, he said that the sudden bout was the basis for the blessings of the stick of Sant Baba ji. Giani ji always kept a walking stick in his hand but had forgotten to carry it that day.

Giani ji kept this blessed stick safely in a wooden box specially prepared for the purpose. Whenever his sons went for their educational examinations the stick was touched to their foreheads.

This was a blessed stick as it had the touch of Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj. No one knew how much SIMRAN Sant ji Maharaj had done with the stick in his hand.
