Once, a lady follower of Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj came to his abode. She requested him, “Maharaj ji! I am unable to find a suitable match for the marriage of my son. Please be merciful and bless my son, so that he gets engaged.”
Sant Baba ji kept quiet and did not reply.
The lady thought, “It seems that Sant Baba ji is contemplating about my son. In case my son gets engaged, I will donate fifty one rupees to Sant Baba ji.”
She again requested, “Maharaj ji! Please be kind and help me.”
Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj instead of replying to the lady, asked an attendant to give PARSHAD to the lady.
The lady after receiving the PARSHAD was very happy. She said, “You have given me PARSHAD after hearing my prayer and without speaking. Now it is your duty to take care of my son.”
Sant Baba ji only smiled.
It so happened that her son got engaged after two days of this incident. She married her son within a short period of time.
After the lady was free from the works of the marriage she came to the farm of Shabdian to pay her homage to Sant Baba ji. She brought fifty-one rupees to offer, as per her promise. On the way she changed her mind to offer the big amount. She thought that Sant Baba ji does not know about her promise, because she had not announced it loudly and only her heart knew about it.
While at the abode she paid her respects by bowing on her knees in front of Sant Baba ji. She kept five rupees in front of Sant Baba ji.
Sant Baba ji had never allowed money to be offered to him. He had never touched the currency. Sant Baba ji said, “Mai! Why have you kept this piece of paper here?”
The lady said, “Maharaj ji! With your blessing my son has got married. This is not a piece of paper but my offering of five rupees to you as I am thankful to you for your grace.”
Sant Baba ji said, “Mai! You have reduced the promised amount from fifty-one rupees to five rupees. Pick up this piece of paper and leave this place.”
The lady was really dumbfounded. She felt ashamed at her action. A lot of respect for Sant Baba ji erupted in her heart. She could gather that Sant Baba ji was a true Holy person with the ability to understand the things going on in the minds of his followers.
She said, “Maharaj ji! I am really sorry for my action. You know everything. Please excuse me for my folly.” Saying this she replaced the five-rupee note with an offering of fifty-one rupees.
The benevolent Sant Baba ji excused her action. He though could not accept the offering of the money. In order not to injure the feelings of the lady, Sant Baba ji asked an attendant to pick up the money and purchase the requisite ration for preparing KARAH PARSHAD.
The ingredients were bought and KARAH PARSHAD prepared and distributed to all in large quantities. Everyone shared the happiness of the blessed lady.
The custom of distributing large amounts of KARAH PARSHAD to the sangat continues even today at Nirmal Kutiya Johalan.
