Sant Baba Jawala Singh ji of Jiyan has been a great ascetic. He was known for his holiness. He was the disciple of Sant Baba Hari Singh ji of Jiyan (the disciple of Sant Baba Harnam Singh ji Maharaj). Sant Baba Hari Singh ji had observed the asceticism, selfdiscipline, and love for Gurbani in Sant Baba Jawala Singh ji and decided to appoint him as the next ascendant of the Jiyan DERA, after his death.
Sant Baba Hari Singh ji used to send Sant Jawala Singh to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan, for DARSHAN of Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj. He considered the initiation of individuals into Khalsa through the distribution of the ambrosial nectar of the two edged sword, by Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj as a great campaign. It was very difficult to change the minds of individuals who had fallen prey to materialistic desires. Sant Baba Hari Singh ji knew that Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj was a divine saint and the knowledge of his spiritual powers had spread far and wide.
Sant Baba Hari Singh ji wanted Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj to grant his divine guidance to Sant Jawala Singh, which could be beneficial to him for his spiritual pursuits. The wellbeing of Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj was also gathered through his disciple.
One day Sant Baba Hari Singh ji suddenly advised his disciple Sant Jawala Singh to go to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan and pay his homage to Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj. Sant Baba Jawala Singh was happy to get these instructions from his Guru as he had been thinking for some time to visit Nirmal Kutiya Johalan. Obeying the instructions of his Gurudev, he started on a horse from the Jiyan Dera to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan.
On the way Sant Jawala Singh ji thought, “I am going to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan after a long time. Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj is a great saint. I wish that before I see any other Sadhu at the Kutiya and before I pay my obeisance to Sri Guru Granth Sahib in the Darbar place, I should have the DARSHAN of Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj. Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj should fulfill this wish of mine and prove to me his greatness.”
The telepathic communication of the saints works very fast. The thought of Sant Baba Jawala Singh was received at Nirmal Kutiya Johalan immediately. Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj asked Sant Baba Gian Singh ji to place his mat near the entrance gate.
Sant Baba Gian Singh ji laid the mat near the gate. Sant Baba ji walked around the Darbar hall and came to the gate. He sat on the mat there. The mat was placed in such a manner that no one could enter or leave the Kutiya through this gate, without disturbing Sant Baba ji.
Sant Baba Jawala Singh ji while on his way to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan went first to Rama Mandi for some work and then came to the Kutiya. He alighted from the horse, a little distance from the Kutiya. He walked with his horse till the entrance gate. When he reached the gate, he had the DARSHAN of Sant Baba ji, sitting near the gate. He bowed on the ground in front of him and then bowed the head of his horse also.
When he was close to Sant Baba ji, he was asked, “Sant ji! You have taken a lot of time to reach here.”
Sant Baba Jawala Singh ji said, “Maharaj ji! I went to Rama Mandi for some work.”
He understood that Sant Baba ji had read his thoughts and had been waiting for him at the gate. His wish had been fulfilled and he did not have any doubt now about the greatness of Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj.
Sant Baba ji said to him, “Sahib! I have been sitting here so that no one can enter. No sadhu has been permitted to leave.” He then added, “When you had wished for something then you should not have gone anywhere else and come straight to this place. You should have at least thought of my condition.”
Sant Baba Jawala Singh ji fell on the feet of Sant Baba ji and felt ashamed. He sought forgiveness from Sant Baba ji.
Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj asked an attendant standing nearby, “Sahib may please be taken to the Darbar place to pay homage to Sri Guru Granth Sahib. My mat may also be shifted and placed under the mango tree.”
Sant Baba Jawala Singh ji realized the greatness of this Holy saint and felt happy that he was also a member of the same sect of sadhus.
When he came back Sant Baba ji asked, “How is Sant ji Maharaj?” referring to Sant Baba Hari Singh ji Maharaj.
Sant Baba Jawala Singh ji described in detail about his Gurudev and also expressed the Fateh conveyed by his Gurudev for Sant Baba ji.
Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj gave full respects to Sant Baba Jawala Singh ji.
On returning back to Jiyan, he narrated the complete episode to his Gurudev Sant Baba Hari Singh ji Maharaj. His Gurudev said to him, “Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj is a sadhu who has attained the Braham Gyan.”
