Nirmal Kutiya Johalan

A PHOTOGRAPHER IS BLESSED

A Holy person becomes carefree after enshrining the Lord’s Name in his mind. His mind and body becomes immaculately pure and a lasting peace fills his heart. Imbued with the love of the Lord, he becomes intoxicated and renounces his ego. Sant Baba Basant Singh ji Maharaj had reached this stage quite early in his life. The following incident is evidence to his having risen to such a level.

On the request of his followers in the village of Bhai Ke Samraavan, one day Sant Baba Basant Singh ji paid a visit to his devotees in the village. This incident relates to the year 1928. Sardar Bishan Singh a well-known photographer operated his studio in the village. He also came to pay his respects to Sant Baba ji. Without disclosing his identity he very meekly requested, “Please bestow your glance of grace on me by visiting my shop.”

Sant Baba ji was in his zest at that moment and immediately got up. He asked the devotee to lead to where he wanted to take him.

The photographer brought Sant Baba ji to his studio and made him sit on a chair. He requested Sant Baba ji, “Maharaj ji! I want to take your photograph. Please permit me.”

Sant Baba ji replied, “Bhai! You may do whatever makes you feel happy.”

The photographer was thrilled and he started taking necessary measures for obtaining a good photograph. The technology in those days was quite ancient. An experienced photographer was though expected to get a good black and white picture. For the still photograph, Sardar Bishan Singh had to adjust the sitting posture of Sant Baba ji. Sant Baba ji did not object, when he rotated the chair to the desired position. He then positioned the arms and hands of Sant Baba ji at the right place. He also placed flower vases on the sides of the chair. He took quite some time in adjusting everything but Sant Baba ji did not get irritated at all.

The photograph was then taken with all precautions. This print of the photograph was quite good. It can be seen at the residence of Master Mohinder Singh of that village. A copy of the photograph has been printed in this book also.

After this incident the photographer remained busy in his work and did not get time to pay his homage to Sant Baba ji. Twenty-two years passed, when one day he came to Nirmal Kutiya Johalan to pay his respects.

When he touched the feet of Sant ji Maharaj, the Holy saint said, “Bishan Singh! You have come after a very long time.”

A current passed through the body of Bishan Singh. He was astounded to hear his name being uttered by Sant Baba ji. Even after twenty-two years, he was recognized by Sant ji Maharaj who had called him by his name.

A Holy saint with such spiritual qualities had natural capability to attract many followers to his fold.
